NEW DELHI: As Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s despair and disappointment were clear for all to see.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went almost there in their attempt to reach the playoffs when they scored above 201 with fierce batting attacks from Ravindra Jadeja and Dhoni towards the end.
The five-time champions required only 17 runs off the final over.
Nevertheless, Yash Dayal of RCB who had been sent to the cleaners for five sixes by KKR’s Rinku Singh in IPL 2023 was able to keep his cool and despite being hit for a sky-scraper six by Dhoni off the very first delivery, Dayal sealed a pulsating victory granting RCB passage into playoffs.
Dhoni was packing up his kit bag after the match which he has won CSK 5 IPL titles in when young Mayank Dagar approached him with a bat asking for an autograph. Dhoni signed it cheerfully.
This video made its way onto Dagar’s social media page as he shared it with everyone.
Scoring 25 from 13 balls including three fours and one six before being dismissed by Dayal Dhoni came out at No.8 but this ended CSK’s hopes of progressing into playoffs.
In season IPL 2024, Dhoni scored 161 runs at a strike rate of 220.54.
