Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton, seems to believe that the players stand to benefit from the East Coast trip. This is more so after experiencing it before with the New Orleans Saints. He feels that it is right for the broncos to achieve cohesion since this situation is similar to what he did before in San Diego.
Sean Payton Hopes Broncos’ East Coast Trip Will Strengthen Team Bonding
Even Payton found himself doing ‘this’ during his time on the Saints where the team managed to win by playing one game and two games that consisted of one East Coast game followed by a game in London.
When asked if he believed he would be able to isolate a team for a week, he responded: “I do like it. It’s being away for a week with the team there” just before getting the team that had gone 0-2, the Broncos’ set for a game against the 2-0 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Then again after the game, they will remain at The Green Bottle for a week again, preparing for the Broncos Week four game against the sleeping Nueva Fiyeta.
The Broncos request was that two of their games be played in a back-to-back manner in the Eastern Time Zone, allowing the same to stay out East. Payton explained the reason for this action stating, “The reason we put the request in is just to stay in that time zone, practice and then be more acclimated relative to back-and-forth four different times.”
Since it contains perfect planning, The Greenbrier Resort is a suitable place for training as it consists of large-scale infrastructure, amongst which there are 3 practice fields and a sports performance center with a weight room and several meeting chambers. Previously, this venue had been used by the San Francisco 49ers and Arizona Cardinals for the in-season training camp.
Payton’s grain of understanding, on why elongated road trips are such a great advantage, is accumulated during his 15 seasons with the Saints. The St. Louis Rams defeated them in 2008 and the San Diego Chargers were put to bed in London for the first time. But it was in 2017 when this trip proved how much this particular approach pays off: the Saints followed up on their 34-13 domination over the Carolina with a 20-0 annihilation of the Miami Dolphins the two weeks later. It became a springboard for the team to win eight games in a row before the ‘Minneapolis Miracle’ happened.
Payton noted the importance of such trips in the future and said, “When we went to London, those are the time that you get a little bit better focus I think and that you can actually develop as a team.” For the time being, however, as the broncos brace for whatever lies ahead, Payton is game by game on this one, hoping that this trip comes useful in enhancing current unity in the team.
