Delhi Water Minister has shot a letter addressed to the Haryana Chief Minister on Wednesday regarding reduced water flow in Yamuna, which is Delhi’s lifeline.
According to Atish Jain, “I am writing this email to urgently bring to your attention the alarming state of affairs with respect to Delhi’s water supply. We are currently going through an unprecedented severe water crisis that has resulted in major repercussions for the residents of Delhi. This causes immense pain particularly during the election period.”
“You can understand how severe it is that Delhi is still burning from continuous heat wave and Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted red alert for coming days.”

The minister of Delhi alleged that the Haryana government led by BJP has deliberately reduced water levels in Delhi, the levels of Yamuna waters have gone down significantly thereby revealing serious water scarcity in Rabad barrage. This is like a jugular vein to New Delhi.
“Pond water should ordinarily stay at 674.50 feet or above according to normal standards. But our probe discovered that on May 15, 2024, the level decreased to 671.9 feet and continued going down until it eventually reached an alarmingly low point at 670.9 feet.”
