
New Delhi, Wednesday, delhi high court Candidates of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) have been directed to repair campus buildings damaged during the election before counting of votes begins. The court had previously halted vote counting and announcement of results on September 26, emphasizing that its purpose was to send a strong message against such irregularities and not to disrupt the electoral process.

The court was hearing an application filed by two candidates contesting university elections in two separate DU colleges seeking declaration of results.
Candidates said they will ensure students clean the college’s buildings and coordinate with the varsity team to repaint them.
The application was filed in a pending petition seeking action against DUSU candidates and student groups involved in vandalizing, defacing, soiling or ruining the aesthetic appearance of public walls.
Petitioner Prashant Manchanda, a practicing lawyer, said the errant candidates and their parties should be directed to remove the defacement and renovate the areas and make further efforts to beautify the damaged parts.
The court gave time to the candidates, petitioners, MCD and DMRC to file status reports and listed the matter as October 21.
The court on September 26 suspended the counting of votes in the DUSU and university elections until all defaced materials, including posters, hoardings and graffiti, are removed and public property is restored.
It has said the election may go ahead but votes will not be counted until the court is satisfied the defacement of the property has been removed.
Voting takes place on September 27 and counting will be completed on September 28.
