NEW DELHI: As Delhi’s air quality showed signs of improvement, schools across the city remained closed with no further notification regarding their reopening. The suspension was carried out on the instructions of the Directorate of Education, Government of Delhi and affected all classes including Classes X and XII. The suspension of physical classes was initially due to severe air pollution and high Air Quality Index (AQI) levels, which posed health risks to students and staff.
Earlier, the board had allowed students of classes 10 and 12 to attend physical classes in view of the upcoming board exams. The court emphasized the importance of protecting students from the harmful effects of hazardous air quality.
As of now, schools have been directed to conduct classes online and heads of educational institutions have ensured that parents are informed promptly. The latest news from the government does not provide clarity on when physical classes may resume.

Although Delhi’s air quality improved slightly with the AQI level falling below the 300 mark on Monday morning, the pollution levels remained in the “poor” category. This continues to be a concern for residents, especially children and the elderly. Experts recommend that precautions should still be taken to minimize exposure to harmful pollutants.
The situation remains fluid and the Delhi government is expected to closely monitor air quality before taking any decision on the reopening of schools.
