New Delhi: passing 11 years of manhunt, delhi Police have arrested a hit man in connection with the 2013 murder of Jitender Lamba in Tiranara Nagar, West Delhi. The killing was triggered by a property dispute between Lamba and his brother Rajesh Singh Lamba.
The accused was identified as Raju Banarsi. Police, disguised as laborers, tracked Banasi to the dense forests on the border of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Sain said Banasi was part of a six-member gang hired by Rajesh Singh Lamba to kill his brother.
The gang earned Rs 10 lakh through the hired killing. Banasi provided pistols to his accomplices and ensured their escape. After the murder, all the defendants fled, but were later arrested, except Banasi, who was declared a criminal.
Sheriff Navin’s analysis of hundreds of mobile phone numbers led to Banasi’s arrest. The police traced his relative’s mobile phone number to the forest area where they entered pretending to be laborers. After interrogation, Banasi admitted that he committed the crime for money. He fled to Banaras and then Jharkhand, assuming a new identity as Mritunjay Singh and becoming a truck driver to evade capture.
