New Delhi: Delhi government has received 84,765 pollution-related complaints Green Delhi App So far this year. Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) are the civic agencies that handle most of the grievances.
MCD has the highest number of complaints at 54,878, of which 46,279 (84.33%) have been resolved while 8,599 are still pending.
PWD received 12,327 complaints, of which 10,803 (87.64%) were resolved, leaving 1,524 unresolved. The DDA registered 4,795 complaints, of which 4,424 (92.26%) have been disposed of, of which 371 are still pending.
The data is based on departmental complaint reports available on the Green Delhi App and maintained by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) under the Environment Department, Government of Delhi.
The Green Delhi app launched by the Delhi government in 2020 enables residents to report pollution issues by uploading pictures or videos, marking the location and specifying the nature of the complaint.
Complaints will be forwarded to relevant civil agencies for resolution, and users can track the latest status of their submissions.
Other agencies involved include the Irrigation and Flood Control Department (2,032 complaints, 91.98% resolution rate), Revenue Department (1,041 complaints, 84.53% resolution rate) and Delhi Jal Board (3,056 complaints, 97.94% resolution rate).
The Delhi Traffic Police received 362 complaints and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation received 564 complaints.
Of the total complaints, 10,656 were overdue and the MCD alone handled 8,322 such cases.
In November, Delhi experienced its worst air pollution levels this year, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching a hazardous level of 491, according to the pollution control agency.
This “Severe+” classification indicates that the air quality is extremely unhealthy and poses a significant health risk to the population.
Delhi Chief Minister Atish called the situation a “medical emergency”.
The Delhi government has taken emergency measures such as closing schools, halting construction activities, and restricting vehicle movement to mitigate the crisis.
