On Wednesday and October 5, Baramulla MP Sheikh’s regular bail plea Abdul Rashid alleging to be Engineer Rashid in a suspected terrorist financing case was held over by a Delhi court.
Rashid was given interim bail by Additional Sessions Judge Chand Jeet Singh on Tuesday and advised to avoid Tihar Jail until October 2. He has been gagged due to ongoing assembly polls in the Jammu and Kashmir territory. He is anticipated to be released from Tihar jail on Tuesday itself.
And plenty of other terms as well, for example, he shall not speak to the media about the case, he will not leave the accommodation, every alternate day he has to call for video conferencing with the Investigators on this case, that if any of the sureties one of the surety shall be a relative and the other may be more or less a friend, no disposition or destruction of evidence or inducing or tampering with regard to influential witnesses.
Vikhyat Oberoi, Rashid’s defending lawyer received intercession order from the Argumentants Court on the dates of October 2 until October 4. We still restrain ourselves from commenting specific reasons why the court did not grant that order today.”
It was the date for the arguments to be presented on the application in a closed hearing (other people were not admitted into the room).
The process of voting is scheduled between the range of September 18, 2024, till October 1, 2024, and this shall be for 90 members, in three phases. Rashid’s request was seeking to grant him bail for at least three months.
Concerning Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid’s bail application:
- Rashid, presently incarcerated at the Tihar jail in Delhi over terror financing charges of 2017, won Peoples House as an independent from the Baramulla parliamentary constituency in Jammu 2024 elections in India is set. He even defeated his closest challenger National Conference Omar Abdullah by over two hundred thousand votes.
- He won the Langate assembly segment in the J&K assembly elections of 2008 and 2014. He put up a fight but failed to win a seat in the Lok Sabha in 2019. Rashid went on to lead the People’s Ittehad Party however he participated in Lok Sabha election as an independent.
- Rashid has been in prison since 2017, and has remained incarcerated at Tihar jail in Delhi’s capital since 2019. NIA as accused in the case of Terrorism Financing under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of 2017.
- The entity has brought forth allegations against several individuals , Kashmiri separatist leading figure Yasin Malik , Lashkar-e-taiba’s founder Hafiz Saeed and others.
