On Wednesday, a delegation of BJP officials including Virendra Sachdeva, the Chief of Delhi People’s Party and Yogendra Chandolia, North West Delhi MP also met Sanjay Arora at the Delhi Police headquarters. They lodged a complaint for registering an FIR and setting up a special investigation team to look into allegations on targeted theft by tanker mafia from Munak canal and other water sources.
“In addition to this you are kindly requested to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) which will investigate this issue in detail so as penalize water tanker mafia looting water from Munak canal where some corrupt officials may be involved,” read the letter addressed to the Commissioner written on behalf of all party members.
The party wanted police to take action against the tanker mafia for denying people their right to water in Delhi.
As New Indian Express reported that AP ruling and Bharatiya Janata Party have started blaming each other over who is responsible for one of the worst water crisis in recent memory in Delhi amid scorching heat of unprecedented summer. Atish accused Haryana state led by BJP of purposely stopping the Yamuna river flow which supplies water to capital city. The BJP leader has alleged that AAP government and its MLAs are conniving with those involved in stealing and selling people’s right for drinking or irrigation water called tanker mafia.
In another related development, Supreme Court strongly castigated government of Delhi for prevailing situation under which there was tankers’ cartel as well as wastage of liquid resource within city limits.
