New Delhi: Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) announced on Friday that Terminal 2 (T2) Indira Gandhi International Airport The plant will be closed for four to six months starting in the next financial year for refurbishment.
The upgrade is expected to be completed in the second quarter of fiscal 2026. The closure will not have a significant impact on airport operations as Terminal 1 (T1) will accommodate the additional passengers.
T2, built 40 years ago by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), will undergo extensive renovations to improve passenger experience and increase capacity for future developments. T1 and T2 currently operate domestic flights, while Terminal 3 (T3) operates international flights.
“The decades-old terminal will undergo major upgrades aimed at enhancing passenger experience and increasing the airport’s capacity to meet future growth needs,” DIAL said.
“Renovation of the 40-year-old T2 is the need of the hour,” DIAL CEO Videh Kumar Jaipuriar said.
He added that the upgrade will enhance the overall passenger experience by upgrading key infrastructure, improving operational efficiency and improving passenger comfort.
“With the terminal’s passenger capacity expected to peak in the 2025-26 financial year, these enhancements are critical to support growing air travel demand, particularly from domestic passengers,” he noted.
The airport currently handles approximately 1,300 flight movements per day.
