According to State Council deputy spokesman Vedant Patel, the United States is said to be stepping up its involvement with India in strategic areas such as the economy and security ties.
This important relationship will still be nurtured, Patel added. This commitment was highlighted at the recently concluded G7 summit in Italy where President Joe Biden met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“India is a country we are deepening our engagements across many key fronts, especially deepening economic connections; deepening security partnerships,” PTI quoted Patel as telling reporters.
Last year, during his visit to the United States, Prime Minister Modi signed several important agreements on defense cooperation, trade and space collaboration. There will also be other areas of cooperation according to what Patel confirmed. “And I think we’ll also deepen our engagement on many other things,” he said.
About two weeks ago the National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan visited India too. During his June 17-18 trip Sullivan had talks with Indian Foreign Minister Ajit Doval about different aspects of US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET).
In response to a question on Pakistan as well as India-Pakistan relations, Patel outlined United States’ position towards terrorism.
“He wants every country on earth to condemn terrorism anywhere,” he said.
“But at the end of the day this is an issue between India and Pakistan. Generally speaking of course we welcome any country that has more positive relationships with its neighbors but specifically I just I have nothing for you,” concluded Patel.
