In another accomplishment for the Dallas Cowboys, the team has signed quarterback Will Grier to the practice squad, bringing back a former close friend in the quarterback room. Grier, a third-round pick in 2019, spent three years with the Cowboys from 2021 to ’23 and never took an offensive snap. In August 2023, he was waived by Dallas following the trade for Trey Lance.
Since 2019, Grier has played for Carolina, Dallas, Cincinnati Bengals, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles. No touchdowns and four interceptions in two losses. He has not played in an NFL regular season game since his debut.
Grier will be the Cowboys’ No. 3 quarterback, with Rush expected to start in Week 11 against the Houston Texans. Lance was the second choice. Prescott will undergo season-ending surgery for a torn hamstring and is ruled out for the remainder of the 2024 season.

A native of Charlotte, Greer was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, the oldest of the children of Chad Greer and Elizabeth Greer-Floyd. His father is an assistant football coach and former quarterback for the East Carolina Buccaneers. He had two brothers, Nash and Hayes, a half-sister, Skylyn Elizabeth Floyd, and a half-brother, John Henry “Hank” Greer. Nash, Hayes and Skylynn were popular users of Vine, the defunct video-sharing service. Greer married Jeanne Marie Greer (née O’Neill) and they had two daughters.
