MS Dhoni’s Indian team tour of Bangladesh 2015 was disastrous. The tour consists of one Test and three One-day Internationals. Once the lone Test was drawn the focus shifted to the ODI series being played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
The first game of the ODI series took place on June 18 where the visitors put their comprehensive injury on their hosts. The highlight of the day was Bangladesh’s young rhythm bowler Mustafizur Rahmanhis, the star of the IPL.
To restrict the opposition to a mere total of 228 runs, he pitched perfectly collecting 5 Indian wickets.
In reply: Bangladesh chased the target and won the game by 79 runs with help from Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar.
Even with the loss, India still remains favorites to recover and win the derries and the two other ODIs that remain. But that’s not the way it happened.
For the second time Bangladesh surprised India and won another match in the second ODI. Once again showing his class, Mustafizul took six Indian wickets for 43 runs.
First On the boards, India came up with 200 people and once again Bangladesh chased it, winning the series in 3 – 1 with one game remaining on the schedule.
The victory was significant as it was the first time Bangladesh had ever managed to triumph over India in an ODI series.
From here there has been a significant point not due to sole the victory itself but also this assured Bangladesh’s final qualification for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
Going by the rose-tinted glasses, India would still be grateful for a meaningless consolation in the third ODI. For right through the series, it will be reminiscences of Bangladesh in general and Mustafizur Rahman in particular that people remember.
