After making controversial comments Telangana Minister Konda Surekar has been summoned by a Hyderabad court to appear on December 12 in response to a criminal defamation suit filed by actor Nagarjuna. The complaint was filed based on Surekha’s statement that Nagarjuna’s remarks were defamatory towards him and his family, particularly involving his son Naga Chaitanya and his ex-wife, Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
The Special Judicial Class I Magistrate issued summons under Section 356 (defamation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), PTI reported. Konda Surekha sparked controversy in October when she made comments linking Naga Chaitanya and Samantha’s divorce to politicians and specifically alleged that BRS leader KT Rama Rao was involved in the breakdown of their marriage. Her comments, which suggested he used manipulative tactics against actresses, sparked outrage in the political and film circles.
After facing backlash, Surekha retracted her remarks, but not before Nagarjuna filed a defamation suit, claiming her comments had damaged his family’s reputation. , both Nagarjuna and Samantha clarified that their divorce was mutual. The situation further escalated as actors and stars from the Telugu film industry unanimously condemned the minister’s statement.
