For the past 72 hours, three people have died and over 76 people have fallen sick after allegedly vomiting and diarrhea from drinking alcohol contaminated water in Binder district of Madhya Pradesh.
On Monday night, there were 52 confirmed cases as we had 24 more on Tuesday. This happened at various wards within Foup.
Sanjeev Srivastava a District official who toured the affected areas on Wednesday said that around 13 persons were still hospitalized. “We have received complaints of 76 such cases till now. Out of these, three have been sent to Gwalior and seven are admitted to Morena health facility,” he told TOI. He however denied reports claiming loss of lives.
He said: “An old man with multiple illnesses died, but we cannot say the cause of death was contaminated water.”
Ambulances deployed in Fopu number three while those at Gwalior together with those at Morena have been kept in readiness.
This happened when new electricity poles were being erected near the drains causing contamination because drinking water supply lines were damaged by machinery doing this task thereby resulting into drainage coming out and getting mixed with domestic clean water.
This resulted into residents falling ill especially in wards 5,6 and 7 where their tap water got contaminated on Monday. Health authorities raised an alarm due to the increased numbers of patients.
By Monday evening there were already fifty two patients affected by the disease who increased by twenty four from morning up to evening hour on Tuesday. Presently Phoop Community Health Centre has seven patients admitted while Bind District Hospital has one patient and three others have been referred to Gwalior. The other victims were given first aid and discharged.
The district collector said they are continuously monitoring the affected wards. Oral rehydration salts as well as other essential medicines are given to the patients thanks to several personnel who had been assigned duties relating to this in this ward.
Four ambulances are on their way from Morena to Bhind Regional Hospital; another four belong to Bhind Regional Hospital whereas three have been positioned in Phoo.
Whereas locals claim that there were three deaths among them a 17 year old teenager, the local authorities denied any such casualties.
