On Wednesday, a notice of privilege motion was filed against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘deleting’ certain remarks made by some Bharatiya Janata Party MPs Anurag Thakur and the entire video of his speech was uploaded by him to X.
Amidst a controversy over BJP MP Anurag Thakur’s comments about the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, PM Modi shared a video clip of this five-time BJP MP talking and said that it “must be heard” .
“The words he tweeted and spoke on twitter did not come from me,” indeed, they were his own. He added, “The speech of my young dynamic colleague Anurag Thakur must be listened to. It is the perfect mix of fact and humour that lays bare Indian bloc’s dirty politics.”
The Congress party has since taken exception to the Prime Minister’s rant and accused him of encouraging “an infringement of parliamentary privileges” by supporting the speech, which the Congress party termed a “highly abusive and unconstitutional trade”.
“Anurag Thakur is immature, but is it necessary for the Prime Minister to tweet?” Union House Lopp Hager said.
“Prime Minister Modi should know when and where speak. Besides he talks about increasing emotions. Parliament should not allow this behavior and should take it away,” charged Hager.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh pointed out earlier in the day that Sansad TV had uploaded the unedited speech despite assurances from president Jagadambikar Pal to MPs that the remarks would be deleted, the Prime minister however publicly shared and praised such speeches. He referred to it as “the new lowest point in India’s parliamentary history”; saying it reveals “deep-rooted casteism of BJP-RSS & Mr. Modi.”
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also slammed Anurag Thakur for his remarks. While Akilesh Yadav wonders whether it is right to ask someone about their caste, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra points out that 80% of the country’s population demand a socio-economic caste Census.
He unlocked the mind of an average Indian, these words backfired on Rahul Gandhi and BJP was not left out in this angering process according to congress media and publicity chief Pawan Khera.
