China appealed on Thursday against its support for Taiwan by Prime Minister Modi. In his X anniversary message, Prime Minister Lai Chengde said that he looked forward to closer relations and “we are committed to a mutually beneficial economic and technological partnership.” China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also urged India to resist Taiwan’s “political calculations” and not do anything that violates the “one-China principle.”
In his congratulatory message Jimmy Lai expressed his desire to develop partnerships, increase cooperation in trade, science and technology as well as other aspects. He also hopes to contribute to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region. China has protested with Indian authorities claiming it was against any political contact between Taiwan and other countries having their diplomatic relation with Beijing after which India understood clearly China’s position on the issue.
“The one-China principle is an accepted standard in global affairs and a common understanding among nations. By doing this India has made a serious political commitment to this, which it should be aware of, beware of and counteract the political calculus of Taiwan authorities.” In this line China protested with India.
India does not directly articulate its one-China policy but it is supposed to pursue it like other states having diplomatic links with China since 2010.“Some parts of the territory belong to China too,” he added. The same happened when President Xi Jinping congratulated him through official statements while Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong was appointed for new species after being taken from office because Narendra Modi had triumphed at elections held in May 2019.
