New Delhi has had several shopping centers being target of bomb threat, according to the city’s police. On Tuesday, Delhi Police said that they received the email.
Such places as Chanakya Mall, Select CityWalk, Ambience Mall and DLF, Cine Polis, Pacific Mall and Primus Hospital are some of those that have been threatened through such emails which mentioned about explosives going off in hours.
However; after receiving a mail from mall authorities who swiftly called local police for investigation nothing seems to be evidence indicating presence of any bomb yet. After a preliminary inquiry conducted by a top ranking officer from the department of police, it was established that these threatening e-mails were recurring. The official added that “many email messages were sent to different malls and other areas and we are following them up.”
The investigation is looking into the motive behind these threats as well as those responsible. More details will follow as law enforcement continues its probe into this matter.
In another development, on 17th August an identical threat was made at Gurgaon’s Ambience Mall. But after exhaustive search no suspicious item found and Gurgaon Police revealed that mall management got mail regarding bomb due to which several security teams immediately reached there.
Stating clearly what happened is ACP Vikas Kaushik of Gurgaon Police,”The Ambience Mall management received an email stating that a bomb had been planted in the mall. When we got this information all our teams including Bomb Detection Disposal Squad (BDDS), Dog Squad and SWAT went inside the mall for sanitization while our Cyber Team traced out the sender of this email
Gurgaon Police emphasized that spreading fake news about bombs or trying to trick officials using social media or e-mails would lead to serious consequences.
Similarly on August 2nd, earlier this month Greater Kailash area school in Delhi also recieved an identical threat via email. An E-mail reported a bomb placement at the school which led to a full-scale investigation. The school was searched but no evidence of the bomb was found. In response, the government prosecuted.
The public is being urged to stay calm while remaining alert as these are still active threats.
