Chamoli police chief Sarvesh Panwar told TOI, “The accused Arif Khan, 26, arrested last night. Investigations are ongoing to track down the suspect who helped him flee the town after the incident.

Meanwhile, local traders closed their markets on Monday in protest. They also held rallies in the town with members of some right-wing groups amid a heavy police presence.
A local businessman who participated in Monday’s riot said, “Although the accused has been arrested, people here want a strict crackdown on all outsiders involved in criminal activities such as drug smuggling. Shops will not reopen until the government meets our demands. ” “
On August 22, Khan fled the hill town of Uttarakhand state after the incident in which he allegedly flashed a 14-year-old girl at her home. The matter came to light on August 31 after the girl’s father lodged a complaint.
