Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, whose case is still under the investigation of CBI with respect to the GST policy, as his lawyer argues that it has given a misleading impression about the status of the probe.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made it clear that while its investigations are complete in relation to all other accused persons in this case, those relating to Delhi’s CM Mr. Arvind Kejriwal are still ongoing. On Saturday Industrial and Commercial Bank Advocate DP Singh argued before the Supreme Court that new developments on June 4th have led to Kejriwal’s arrest by the CBI.
As per India’s Central Bureau of Investigation, it is further probing specifically against Kejriwal and investigations against others are also at concluding stage. All arrested accused excluding Kejriwal have been mentioned in previous statements by Deputy Attorney General.
On June 4th, Supreme Court accepted Solicitor General Tushar Mehta’s submission that investigations will conclude and final complaint/ charge sheet shall be filed on or before July 3rd, 2024, after which the trial court will be free to conduct trial. In its order, the court said “In view of the submissions made and taking into account that the period of ‘6-8 months’ fixed by the court through its order dated October 30th, 2023 has not yet expired, as assured by SG upon submission of final After complaint/charge sheet these petitions can be disposed off with fresh prayers”.
The following people were advised as follows Manish Sisodia and cavisa Objections were raised claiming that the CBI’s statements were distorted and misleading. They pointed out an order by a judge on March 22nd stating that investigations had been completed. According to Sisodia’s counsel “the investigation was complete…what happened today is opposite to what was stated earlier in court”. The CBI wrongly stated in court that the investigation was complete. What has happened today is that the status report has been submitted to the contrary’’, explained Sisodia’s lawyer.
The former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and others accused were on Saturday remanded to judicial custody till July 15, 2024 by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja. Signed bank check for disbursement.
Moreover, some pages of the charge sheet provided by CBI in respect of Kavitha, who is a leader of BRS, were found to have wrong pagination hence requiring postponement of hearing on its third supplementary chargesheet filed before it to July 8th, 2024.
While ongoing investigations and legal proceedings underscored the complexities surrounding excise tax policy cases and various defendants including high profile politicians, all parties are interested in progress of investigation and court verdicts.
