Jalandhar: The Canadian Parliament unanimously passed motion “M-112” proposed by Liberal MP Sukh Dhaliwalstressing “credible allegations of a link between the two indian government agent and the murder of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijar.
The motion calls for an immediate review of measures aimed at holding accountable any foreign individual or agent involved in political interference, violence or related activities.
On June 18 last year, the leader of the Khalistani Tigers, Nijar, was shot dead outside a monastery in British Columbia, Canada.
Nijjar’s death sparked tensions between India and Canada amid allegations that Indian agents may have been involved in the killing. India dismissed the accusations as “baseless” and “politically motivated”.
Dhaliwal expressed his satisfaction in a tweet: “My motion M-112 was passed today with the unanimous support of all voting MPs…” However, some MPs abstained from voting. “Recent events, including credible accusations… are examples of increasing forms of intimidation, threats and interference from India, China, Russia, Iran and others,” the motion states.
The motion requests an expedited assessment to be conducted on every foreign person or operative who has attempted to disrupt politicking through forceful means either directly perpetrated by them or through their affiliations.
The aim is to ask government immediately evaluate its policies regarding foreigners who undermine democratic institutions so as to protect diaspora communities on Canadian soil from political interference; violence; and intimidation.
