In order to create a sense of safety among the locals at India-Bangladesh border, held co-ordination meeting by Border Security Force (BSF) in Border Village on Thursday.
“To create a safe and peaceful environment around the border posts, we have organized many village coordination meetings.” “To ensure security other than this local influential persons like Sarpanch and Pradhan are present,” said an old senior officer of BSF.
On August 7, there were huge gatherings of Bangladeshis in two areas near the International Border (IB). These rallies followed concerns about attacks by demonstrators in Bangladesh. In such situations, BSF personnel exhibited extraordinary alertness and took proactive measures to save innocent lives of these crowds from any danger that might occur with them while ensuring that they do not cross the international boundary.
In one area approximately 35 civilians returned back home as BGB, BSF and local civil authorities pacified the crowd and sent it back to its homes. Extra troops have been deployed by the BSF to manage this situation effectively.
Another group of villagers from Bangladesh approached the International Bureau for a short time causing some commotion. The group was engaged quickly by BSF Personal, preventing any untoward incident before it escalated into anything serious. Villagers went back to their houses and High alert stayed with BSF troops.
In another instance a large Bangladeshi crowd was observed near the border; this resulted into major infiltration attempt that was thwarted. Thereafter, immediate mobilization was done by BGB with help from their counterparts in India’s Army’s border security forces which then dispersed them lest they should cause violation at international borders.
Contrary to rumors going around has confirmed no mass exodus happening at borders between India and Bangladesh as described earlier but our intention is clear. The main driving force behind gathering is fear for internal disorder within towns whereby communities would find themselves pitted against each other due to differences in religious beliefs. They returned home safely after being assured by BSF with the support of BGB and Bangladeshi civil authorities.
BSF North Bengal Border remains totally dedicated to securing the border and ensuring that all personnel are safe within it. Situation is being closely monitored by our forces, ready to act at any time.
