Nishad spoke to his lawyer about the murder on Friday.
The lawyer informed the police, who went to Nishad’s house in Eden Castle Apartments in Mehta Nagar and found the body. An investigator said they found signs of cigarette burns all over her body.
Police said an investigation revealed the couple had been roughing the girl for more than six months, beating her whenever they thought she was “shirking” at work.
Police said another couple, friends of Nishad, also attacked the girl when they visited Nishad’s house on Diwali. Police have detained four other suspects and further investigations are ongoing.
The girl’s mother was a widow, and Nishad arranged for the girl to work as a maid through his sister. The girl’s autopsy was completed at KMC Hospital on Saturday.
The police later handed over the body to her family. Arrangements are being made to cremate the girl at Anna Nagar at the request of her family. Police are awaiting autopsy results to determine the full extent of the attack.
