
Varanasi: A high-risk balloon for success pulmonary valvuloplasty A 10-year-old girl suffering from severe pulmonary artery stenosis was operated on at the cardiology department of Banaras Hindu University’s Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday.
The surgery was performed by a team of Dr. Dharmendra Jain, Dr. Pratibha Rai, Dr. Srishti and Dr. Arjun. The process was done under the CM/PM Relief Fund.
Dr. Pratibha said this case was particularly challenging because the patient was critically ill, with an oxygen saturation of 80% and severe right ventricular dysfunction. Postoperatively, the patient’s condition was stable and he was discharged from the hospital two days later.
Since pediatric cardiologist Dr. Pratibha Rai joined last month, the cardiology department has treated about 10 patients with: congenital heart disease. Professor Vikas Agrawal, Head of the Department, praised the team’s efforts and declared: pediatric cardiology IMS, BHU will now offer the program on a regular basis.
Professor Siddharth Lakhotia, Director, Cardiac Surgery, expressed great joy at the inauguration of this much-needed facility. Children who previously required open-heart surgery for heart defects can now be treated without any incisions, he said.
