Bengaluru: First suspected case in Karnataka HMPV Infections were reported in Bengaluru.
While the case has been reported by BBMP health officials, confirmation from the state health department is still awaited.
An 8-month-old baby at Hebbal Baptist Hospital in Bengaluru had developed fever and difficulty breathing since January 2. The baby had no travel history.
“The hospital has confirmed the infection but further tests are being conducted to confirm the viral load,” BBMP health commissioner Suralkar Vikas Kishore said.
Medical reports accessed by TOI indicate that the multiplex PCR test detected microbial RNA/DNA consistent with the virus in the baby.
“There are multiple respiratory viruses circulating in the city and we are conducting detailed testing to confirm the presence of HMPV. Once confirmed, necessary health protocols, testing and control measures will be initiated,” a senior official of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said .
