Dhaka: bangladesh cricket board (BCB) Men’s Team Head Coach Suspended Chandika Haturusinghe due to misconduct last year ODI World Cup in India.
Former Sri Lanka all-rounder Hatulu Sinha has come under scrutiny after his disappointing performance in Bangladesh’s recent tour of India, with a clean sheet in both the Tests and T20I series.
Reports suggest Haturu Sinha will be sacked and replaced by former West Indies player Phil Simmons. Simmons, who had a successful career as an all-rounder and opened the batting for West Indies in the early and mid-1990s, will take charge of Bangladesh as they prepare for the World Cup. ICC Champions Trophy next year.
The BCB has launched an investigation after a player accused Haturu Sinha of slapping him during the World Cup.
The 56-year-old coach returned to the Bangladesh team for a second time in February last year and his contract expires after the Champions Trophy in 2025.
However, he will not feature in the upcoming two Test matches against South Africa at home.
Haturusinghe’s tenure had mixed results. He led the team to a historic Test series sweep in Pakistan but suffered a major setback in India, suffering an embarrassing 0-2 defeat in the two-match Test series and a 0-3 defeat in the T20I series.
His exit comes at a crucial time for Bangladesh cricket as they look to rebuild and regain their competitiveness on the international stage.
Phil Simmons, who has coached a number of international teams, now faces the daunting task of revitalizing the team and getting it ready for the trophy. BCB hopes Simmons’ experience and tactical acumen can help Bangladesh return to form.
