As per the BCCI constitution, the board must convene a special general meeting (SGM) once Shah officially steps down. BCCI sources told TOI that there is no consensus on Shah’s successor and the management is unwilling to use up one year of the BCCI’s six-year tenure before entering into the mandatory three-year cooling-off period.
TOI understands that the board will also wait for the Maharashtra government to form a cabinet since the current BCCI treasurer Ashish Sheral May run for ministerial position.
“The big problem is that the board did not find a strong candidate for the secretary position who is willing to serve out the one-year term. BCCI will hold elections next year anyway. So, if someone holds this position in BCCI, he will be elected next year He will be in an uncertain position for the next term and someone may be promoted to an interim position,” a BCCI source told TOI.
“The decisions were taken unanimously following the departure of the Supreme Court-appointed governing council in 2019. The idea of election to the post was also raised,” sources said.
It is understood that state associations have made numerous inquiries about the functioning of the committee. The associations have not even received news about Shah’s resignation. There are a few names floating around. Secretary, Gujarat Cricket Association Anil Patel Chairman, Delhi and District Cricket Association Rohan Jaitley considered controversial.
