All BCCI All Star cricketers including senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been advised to feature in domestic cricket when they are free from international duties.
The shift marks the importance that the BCCI attributes to the role of maintaining players’ fitness and competitive edge through domestic cricket. The selection of participating teams Duleep Trophy will now be done by the National Selection Committee instead of zoning selection committee.
This is an important aspect of preparing them for international competition. They insist that Test specialists play at least one or two matches in August to prepare for the upcoming series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
“The zonal selection committee will not exist during this year’s Duleep Trophy campaign. The national selection committee will form it. All those who have chances on making it into test team are included.” Parami News quoted a senior BCCI source saying.” It’s up to Rohit, Virat and Bumrah whether they want to play as per their choice.”
In order to keep players on top form, a greater emphasis has been placed on domestic cricket. Though majority participation is required, allowing senior participants will help in selecting their own involvement which shows good management of workload.
By doing so, we are able to rest key members of our team while others can develop themselves by playing locally.
