“We feel that Rahul Gandhi’s statement on caste census during the elections was like an attempt to start a civil war in the country… We first filed a case against him in the MP-MLA court, but it was dismissed. After that we went to the district court , our appeal was accepted there and a notice was issued to Rahul Gandhi…the date in the notice was January 7…”
The petitioners were citing Rahul Gandhi’s statement in which he said that if Congress is elected in the Lok Sabha elections, it will conduct a financial and institutional inquiry to identify who owns the country’s wealth and then conduct a probe.
In Thukuguda, Gandhi stressed “jitni aabadi, utna haq” while releasing his poll manifesto.
“First, we will conduct a caste census… to know the exact population and status of backward castes, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, minorities and other castes. After that, financial and institutional surveys will begin. Subsequently, we will proceed with this,” he said. is a historic mission to distribute India’s wealth, employment opportunities and other welfare schemes to these regions based on their demographic profile.
The statement was opposed by several political parties but is now receiving renewed attention as a district court issued a notice to Congress leaders.
