The high-stakes campaign was needed after MLA elected to Lok Sabha.
Voting for the seats takes place on Wednesday.
Bihar
In Bihar, by-elections were held because of Bima Bharti’s resignation from JD (U) who later became an RJD contestant in the by-election due to losing Lok Sabha elections. With independent MP Pappu Yadav’s support, Bhatti aims at winning this time round. Kaladhar Prasad Mandal has been fielded by JD (U).
West Bengal

While TMC wants to keep Maniktala in its fold, BJP is eyeing Raiganj, Ranaghat Dakshin and Bagda that were earlier won but had former BJP MLAs switching over to TMC.
Himachal Pradesh
Crucial Himachal Pradesh by-elections; chief minister’s wife Kamlesh Thakur and other prominent candidates Sukhwinder Singh Suhu from Deira. Further seats include Hamirpur and Nalagarh.
Uttarakhand
Manglaur constituency of Uttarakhand dominated by Muslim and Dalit voters will have three-cornered fight after SP Philippine MLA Sarwat Karim Ansari dies. BJP eyes also to take control of this Congress stronghold which traditionally goes to saffron party. Other seats include Manglaur and Badrinath.
Punjab Province

Tamil Nadu
Vikravandi constituency in Tamil Nadu is seeing a triangular contest between DMK’s Anniyur Siva, PMK’s C Anbumani and Naam Tamilar Katchi’s K Abinaya after the death of DMK legislator N Pughazhendhi.
Madhya Pradesh
Elections were held in Amarwala, Madhya Pradesh after Congress MP Kamlesh Shah defected to BJP. Kamlesh Shah (BJP), Dhirlan Shah Inwati (Congress Party) and Devraman Pallavi (GGP) are the main contenders.
These by-elections cover constituencies in West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh with Indian Bloc electorate governing. The NDA is also running for this state as well.
