Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya brought Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary Sachin Tendulkar into his team’s final match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. In the final eleven, Arjun replaced star pacer Jasprit Bumrah and is playing his first IPL 2024 match.
Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Arjun played four matches last season, claimed 3 wickets and scored 13 runs.
“We’re going to bowl”, said MI skipper Pandya during the toss. He added,“Chasing is better in Wankhede. It comes on nicer in the evening”, “It’s always about playing for the badge, playing for pride – all those words are important in the group”, “We know where we stand”,” But ending the season playing good cricket will always be appreciated”,” It gives us more freedom maybe to go out there and express ourselves”. “No Bumrah so in comes Arjun Tendulkar, two changes”,” Tilak Varma is out injured so Brevis gets a chance,” Tim David is out as well”.
Because of that curved run-up and a genuine outswinger, Arjun can swing it late and quick.
Due to his all-round skills recognizing by Mumbai Indians he was bought at Rs 20 lakh base price in auctions of 2021.
Mumbai Indians had retained him for Rs. 30 lakhs before season no.15.
From waving an MI flag as a young fan in stands to proudly wearing one himself today is how far this has been made possible by Arjuna with Blue and Gold being his eternal connection.
Arjun grew up from being a little boy watching his father play cricket to become one of Mumbai Indian icons; as an all-rounder he has proved reliable too.
A tall and pacey man who can bat and make the ball swing, Arjun began his domestic career with Mumbai and later on moved to Goa in 2022 as a first class cricket leader of the attack.
