Sen and Dutt previously played two warring lawyers in Srijit Mukherji’s “Ek Je Chhilo Raja” (“There Was a King”) in 2018.
In Ek Je Chhilo Raja, “We play warring lawyers who were once lovers. However, we are not the central characters there,” Sen said.
She said she and Dutta had a strong friendship during filming.
“When you’ve been friends with someone for a long time, you’ve developed a bond of trust between you, which helps a lot. Also, when you work together as colleagues, you know each other’s strengths and weaknesses,” she told PTI.
To a question, Sen said only the filmmakers can explain why she and Dutta were not cast as a couple until now.
Sen’s first film was Samapti in 1961, while Dutt made his acting debut in Chalchitro in 1980. 1989), both films were directed by Mrinal Sen but did not share screen space. After 27 years, they acted together in “Ek Je Chhilo Raja”.
Sen made his directorial debut in 1981 with “36 Chowringhee Lane”, while Dutt made his directorial debut in 1998 with “Badadin”.
“I have directed Anjan as an actor more than once. I know his strengths as an actor and can’t think of any weaknesses now,” Sen said.
Sen directed Dutt’s Yugant (1995) and Iyer (2002).
Praising the Ei Raat Tomar Amaar director, she said, “I must say that Parambrata gave Anjan and me a lot of creative space. He noticed that we were senior filmmakers and welcomed any suggestions we had.”
“All three of us (Chaterjee, Dutt and Sen) have worked as directors and actors, and we know the problems faced by directors or actors and can therefore collaborate and help each other in any given scene,” Sen said.
