Pakistan’s crowd was angry and frustrated. The team’s early exit from the T20 World Cup has left the cricketing fraternity in despair for years to come. But what about Babar Azam? His children have grown up doing their own things, but it is still a disappointment.
Pakistan lost to United States on their World Cup debut and thus lost their opening match against India before finally beating Canada in a second game, but then all hopes were “dampened” by Florida The U.S.-Ireland match was called off so U.S. went through at India’s expense while Pakistan bowed out of the tournament.
As it appears, some former Pakistani players openly denigrate their national side as much as they want to.
“*Aapne Choon-choon ka murabba bana diya hai iss team ko (You turned this team into a mixture of things)” Ramiz Raja criticized the ex-Pakistan captain for this board and its players.
“You pull old players out of retirement so that you can save face during the T20 World Cup….(you) let go of some good talent just because this is a world cup and it requires experience therefore we have to bring back retired players even if they are crying about the captain.
“Aise thodi team chalti hai. Yeh pehle bhi humne kar ke dekh liya tha (This is not how teams work, we have tried it before),” continued Ramiz. “I think it was the 2003 World Cup. We had all superstars assembled in one group thinking that experience would count for something eventually. However those stars were old thus Pakistan couldn’t be saved by them also we lost there too.”
After his poor performance in last year’s ODI World Cup held in India, Babar Azam resigned as white-ball skipper which prompted his reappointment after many months.
In addition, his leader believes that if the team is to “thrive” he must allow it to do so.
“You have to look at who is playing it and what captain’s role is. You can’t manage this (the team) off the field unless you have cricketing IQ, mindset and morality as well as cricketing fair decisions – wisely bring in discipline and merit through them instead of trying managing it till then because until you do, this team can hardly get back on its feet,” Ramiz said.
“Now you will find scapegoats for saving your own position. That’s not cricket.”
Pakistan will finish their World Cup campaign against Ireland in their final Group A match on Sunday.
