From both parents, Akshay Oberoi inherited the passion for the martial arts and it is obvious, it is hard work on her career which made him take some time off for mixed fight. However the actor is again hard at work for his future projects. Akshay packs a punch for exclusive shoot bombay times And spoke to us on how he’s getting back into the best shape of his life.
According to Akshay, his craving to return to his previous fitness level was quite high. “I started taking interest in MMA from the age of 11 off and on in New Jersey. When I shifted to Mumbai and got a job then only I started coming. It was only action films because action films are expensive, so I stopped doing it, then I began doing training again because I was occupied with acting and I was very glad that this movie came to me. It was this film that made me able to get my passion back, and I was in the process of where I actually left it. Well, what happens is that for lack of practice, one becomes rusty, and for all the practice, you do not perform. Rusty. Therefore it is now integrated as part of my routine. I have a bare minimum contact with it and my body is already starting running and kicking and stretching at this level and it is more difficult to get away from it. I expect to do training in the coming years.”
On his acting career, he once commented, “When I began shooting, the films I used to work on did not incorporate martial arts. It was not until this year that I began filming anything with action in it and action movies also need much more budget as well. So at the end, yes and also I have a willingness to know more, however, I am really thankful for this period of time because at last, I am able to take part in more large-scale, argumentative films, ‘Toxic’, ‘Sunny sanskari ki tulsi kumari’, and other commercial bollywood movies. A kind of fighter Let it be so, make it easy for me to bear. Perhaps these filmmakers knew me before “Fighter,” but I doubt they would have given me those opportunities, and that is how the world works. That is why I am all the more thankful for this stage.”
In films like Heropanti 2, actor Tiger Shroff is best known for doing MMA. But Akshay does not feel the pressure to take on the role of the bade Miyan Chote Miyan who can be compare to him. “Aasim is an actor who does enactments as the main stream. For me, my core business is acting – doing different and versatile roles. His core business is action. These are just bonuses that I have in my toolkit. It is foolish for me to assume I am at the level of a Tiger. That’s not even my dhandha, ye unka dhandha hai. They have to promote it. There are some actors known as action stars and some as romantic ones, but for me, what I aspire for is to be an actress. I love action, but I do not want anything which will overpower my performances. I have to continue the diversity of the film. The same performance may fail sometimes and may work sometimes, it happens. But that is my journey. This is just a small part which I am able to contribute to the overall composite. It is not my primary concern anyway,” he adds.
