Samajwadi Party Chairman and Member of Parliament Kanauj Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav (the sitting MP from Mainpuri) will be the first couple to be in the UP People’s House at the same time.
Akhilesh on Wednesday formally resigned from Kharj assembly seat to keep Kannauj Lok Sabha seat.
Previously, they were both 17th Lok Sabha Members but at different times. Akhilesh won Azamgarh during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections as Dimple lost to BJP’s Subrat Pathak in Kannauj.
Before that, Pappu Yadav and Ranjit Ranjan of Bihar also went to the Lok Sabha for two terms each –-2004-2009 and 2014-19- even though they represented varying political affiliations. This time around however, Pappu Yadav was elected as an independent candidate while his wife was Congress party’s nominee.
Dharmendra -Hema Malini is one such actor-couple who were contemporaries in Parliament albeit belonging to different houses. Dharmendra represented Lok Sabha constituency from 2004 through 2009 whereas Hema Malini had been a parliamentarian since last term (from 2003).
