Those who applied for the position were not named by Jobey. The Chairman added that IM Vijayan, the Indian legend and AIFF technical committee chairman, would also be consulted.
No high-profile candidate will be selected without careful consideration, according to Kayan Chobe. President all india football federation (Asian Film Festival) said this selection of the national team’s new head coach will be based on their ability to achieve expected results.
The AIFF executive committee plans to meet in the near future to identify a successor for Igor Stimac who recently resigned as a head coach. From his last 12 games in charge, he had nine defeats and managed two draws only.
“I feel results are important. We are going to search for someone who can grow Indian football. Our hopes are pinned on him bringing fresh ingredients into the national team’s performance.” He stressed,
Future assignments await the newly appointed head coach including leading India at the Tri-Nations Championship slated for October. Vietnam is hosting the tournament while Lebanon and the host country will also play there.
Jobe expressed optimism that the new coach will be able to achieve positive results from these upcoming campaigns.
He said “we want to take advantage of all our FIFA windows in September, October, November and next March.”
“Our objective is to win whether we are playing against a team with higher or lower rank too. This will also increase game time for players as well. These games give more international opportunities to players than ever before,” he said.
Jobey did not reveal what names came up but indicated there was interest among candidates wanting to become India’s coach.
“We received 291 applications out of which 17 finalists were chosen out of whom both Indians and foreigners constituted part of them. They shall be discussed exhaustively during our next executive committee meeting,” he stated.
IM Vijayan being an Indian Legend as well as AIFF Technical Committee Chairperson shall be involved, according to Asian Film Festival Chairman.
“We are in touch with the technical committee. Since Vijayan is overseas now, we will consult him through virtual meetings,” he said.
Jobey said that certain players such as Lallianzuala Chhangte had the skills and ability to replace the retired Sunil Chhetri who played international football. The vacancy left after retirement.
“Who has been following Sunil Chhetri? Everybody asks themselves this question. This year’s Player of the Year and winner of some other awards can be a real star. Probably, his career will be really long. Such an approach would motivate them to work harder”, he added.
Chante was judged as “Best Men’s Player” during Friday’s AIFF awards ceremony.
