Pakistan was eliminated from the T20 World Cup following losses to India and United States of America, consequently there is a suggestion that the Pakistan Cricket Board could alter the central contracts that it has with its cricketers thus leading to pay cuts.
The team crashed out of this competition without advancing beyond group stages to the Super Eight.
According to PTI discussions within PCB indicate that some board officials and former players have advised chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi to reconsider the central contract signed under Zaka Ashraf’s time in office.
Zaka Ashraf had increased players’ earnings significantly before promising them a fixed percentage of ICC’s revenue for Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Further, before US and West Indies jointly hosted World Cup, Naqvi pledged a bonus for every player amounting to $100,000 should they win this tournament.
“The Chairman may be tough on the recent poor performances by his side by making changes to central contracts with fees or salaries being reduced,” said an insider who spoke on condition of anonymity as he is not allowed to disclose such information.
This follows after the team performed woefully over time including their last year Asian cup and world cup (50 overs) campaign under Babar Azam as captain.
It can’t be confirmed whether any decisions have so far been firmly taken but among board members as well as Chairman, consideration on contract revision strictly addressing lackluster performance produced by team was entertained.
