Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan ruined New Zealand’s chase in T20 World Cup by taking four wickets for Afghanistan in a match of the Group C at Providence Stadium, Guyana on Saturday.
While New Zealand pacemaker Fazal Haq Farooqi started the match with a shocking opening to take as Rashid continued his leg spin and took the wicket of New Zealand last hope to chase and hence they lost shamefully with 84 runs.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson batted against Afghanistan, scoring 159/6 which earned him “Man of the Match” award. Rahmanullah GurbazHe made 80 off 56 deliveries while opening alongside Ibrahim Zadran (41 off 44) for a stand of 103 runs.
To defend that total, both Farooqi and Rashid registered the same figures: 4/17, but for Rashid it was a record – the best by a captain in the history of the T20 World Cup.
This surpassed former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori’s mark of 4/20 against India in first ever T20 World Cup held in South Africa prior to Saturday.
