Munjya starrer Sharvari Wagh Exclusive: 4-hour prosthetic, Vedaa spy movie with John Abraham and Alia!
Horror comedy come here Starring Abhay Verma Munsa Singh and Shawari, based on a Maharashtrian tale has taken the box office by storm and is expected to breach the Rs 100-crore mark in the coming days. Aditya Sapotdar who talks about the journey of the film and how it surprised everyone with its box office success.
Until 6 am in the morning, Munjya terrified me so much that I couldn’t fall asleep at night.
It is a great compliment, and our aim is to leave viewers with something to take home after watching – be it a comedy or horror or fantasy film. Taking an experience home is an ultimate experience whether it’s a comedy, horror or fantasy. In fact whenever I go to theaters and meet people and try to know what gives us this much footfall.
Could you talk about why the film was promoted very little?
I think people have their own choices in movies. Because I come from Marathi cinema where we always do different kinds of films. And when Kantara or Tumbbad gets so many views, I think it really connected back down to your roots somewhere in your folklore. People are still excited about it. But eventually they had to walk into the lobby if they want to see this one.
The time also decides the destiny of the film itself. Munjya was slated for later release with more promotion but then we realized there could not be any other better date than June 7th. I think it’s good for children because I believe there are two reasons that make this movie perfect for families; purely ET, stranger things and harry potter like i said. And this genre is suitable for families and children only because Munja has been portrayed as not only a scary but also a fun character.
I think we need to catch our audience when they are bored in the holidays, waiting for schools to re-open and generally have nothing in mind. Incidentally, World Cup was just about start; Indian Cricket League was over, election fever was over and film buzz had also died down. Monitored Munjya’s statistics, we declared that the first day earnings were tracking with industry predictions for the whole weekend.
2021 to 2022 saw the shooting of Tsunoda, completion of the movie in late 2022 and us waiting for it to come out and find a home in the past year. Films were only made for OTT during the pandemic, so since this film was made for OTT from day one, it was also created then. Zee is confident about Kakuda now that Munjya has’ been responded well; hence they think it is the best time to release it.
Tsunoda is categorized as a horror film which I believe is quite an unusual genre that people do not easily comprehend. For instance, we discuss about horror comedy that defines Tsunoda’s features. I want “Kakuda” to be released after “Munja” because Munja should be my first ever horror comedy. Once you set an atmosphere of a horror comedy, you can make jokes about them. The next morning after Munja came out, I started with Kakuda and got myself busy working on it till now. The work on this film is done but not yet ready for outputting.
