On Wednesday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Mumbai unit protested against what they termed as NEET scam, which they called a “shame on India,” and demanded a retest. The protest in Dadar is part of the party’s nationwide agitation against alleged irregularities in the NEET exams. AAP members, students and concerned citizens gathered to express their outrage, holding placards and shouting slogans.They stressed the need for a fair and transparent re-examination to restore trust in the education system and highlighted the impact of such alleged breaches on the future of students across the country.
The working president of AAP Mumbai Ruby Mascarenhas said that this NEET “scam” has not only jeopardized 2.4 million aspiring doctors but also every young Indian.
“We are demanding cancellation of NEET exam with new examination scheduled to be held. We also want an independent court-monitored investigation followed by appropriate action against those found guilty particularly from BJP.” stated Paul Raphael, AAP executive member from Mumbai.
According to Sandeep Katke, vice-president of AAP Mumbai unit, “The NEET scam is a national disgrace. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan must resign immediately.”
NEET examination was conducted on May 5 at 4750 centers with around 24million candidates appearing for it. Originally results were expected to be announced on June 14th but were done just four days ago apparently because answer sheets reviewing finished ahead of time.
There have been allegations of question paper leaks in states such as Bihar and other irregularities in the prestigious examination leading to protests in various cities along with petitions filed before high courts & Supreme Court. On June 10th dozens of students demonstrated outside Delhi seeking probe into supposed irregularities.
It was that six students tied for first place because of grace scores resulting in there being sixty-seven perfect marks out one hundred eighty six thousand two hundred nine examinees. However it is said that these students were awarded perfect scores due to grace marks.
