LUCKNOW: The ETA government lodged an FIR and arrested a young man on Sunday night after he shot a video showing himself casting his vote eight times at a polling booth in Parliament. farrukhabad Parliamentary constituency goes viral and is shared SP Chairman Akhilesh YadavCongressman Rahul Gandhi and Congress’s official X handle, among others. The 2 and 19-minute multi-camera video (a splicing of shots) shows a teenage boy allegedly pressing a button in front of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s lotus symbol and voting device to vote for candidate Mukesh Ra Photos of Jeep, flashing different government messages at different intervals, were cast eight times. In the video, the unidentified young man changes his shirt at least twice while voting multiple times.
The boy was later identified as the son of Anil Singh Thakur, a resident of Kiriya Pa in Etah district of Farrukhabad parliamentary constituency. Gram Pradhan in Malan village. However, Thakur told TOI that some polling bodies took his son to a nearby polling station to test EVMs before voting began.
“On the day of the election, the polling station personnel took away my intermediate student son (17 years old) and asked him to participate in EVM machine checking/randomization. My son pressed the ballot unit multiple times and fired the video and later shared it.”
The video was uploaded by Akhilesh from his official account at 4:05 pm with the title… “If the Election Commission thinks this is wrong, then it must take some action otherwise…BJP’s booth committee is actually a plunder Committee (sic) )”.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi posted on Officials should not forget their constitutional responsibilities under the pressure of power, otherwise the Indian government, once formed, will take steps that would make anyone think twice before insulting the ‘constitutional oath’.
After the video went viral, the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh issued an official statement through his X (formerly Twitter), which read: “Attention has been drawn to the circulating video. The district election officials concerned have been directed to take prompt and effective action.
Later, Farrukhabad General Subhash Chandra Prajapati confirmed to TOI that an FIR had been lodged in the matter.
An official statement issued by the Farrukhabad district election officer read: “Take it seriously Akhilesh Yadav, Assistant Returning Officer, Farrukhabad Lok Sabha Elections, 103-Aliganj constituency has lodged an FIR under Sections 171F, 419 IPC, 128, 132, 136 of the Public Representation Act, 1950, 1951, 1989 at Nayagaon Police Station, Etah District. Amendments to the 2008 Act have also been included.The sections cover criminal conduct such as electoral impersonation and public servants voluntarily allowing prisoners to escape
In an official statement issued late at night by UP Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa, “The person seen voting multiple times in the video has been identified as the son of Anil Singh, a resident of Khiriya Pamaran, who has been arrested by the police.”
“Instructions have been issued to suspend polling and disciplinary action be taken against all members of the polling party. Further, the Election Committee at the concerned polling station has been advised to conduct a re-poll. Strict instructions to strictly adhere to the voter identification procedure have been issued to all district election officials in UP for the remaining phases, ” read a statement issued by Rinwa’s office.
