According to the USGS, an enormous earthquake of magnitude 7.2 happened off my country Peru’s central coast near Friday.
The epicentre was 8.8 kilometres (5.5 miles) away from Atikipa district.
However, according to Agence France-Presse, despite initial statements by Pacific Tsunami Warning Center that there were no indications for a tsunami, it later gave a warning that “waves up to 3 meters are “possible” on some coasts”.
Following the earthquake, the U.S. Geological Survey also revised its original magnitude rating upwards.
