Thane: Five teenagers from a ten-member trekking party from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane were seriously injured when they were suddenly attacked by a swarm of bees while jungle trekking in Sanjay Gandhi National Park on Monday afternoon, officials informed. . While some of the hikers fell unconscious after the attack, others managed to flee the scene but lost track and alerted authorities, who later rescued them.
Vartak Nagar police informed that six trekkers in the group were from Mumbai, including one from Navi Mumbai and the remaining three from Thane. Authorities have not yet released the names of the injured.
Officials said the teenagers started hiking in the popular Mama-Bhanja range around 9 a.m. and were caught off guard when a swarm of bees surrounded them mid-hike around 1 p.m.
It was unclear whether the boys unknowingly disturbed a nearby beehive or were accidentally stung by bees, said Yasin Tawi, head of the Thane district disaster management team, whose team received a distress call from the police. .
