The Chess Olympiad 2022 is round the corner for Indian men’s and women’s teams to begin the campaign. There was an easy win for Indians in the Men’s team against Morroco 4-0, Women’s team against Jamaica 3.5 – 0.5.
Gukesh D. did not play the first round in the men’s section. Right Pragnananda defeated Tissir Mohamed of Morocco in Sicilian Defence. Vidit Gujrathi, Arjun Erigaisi and P Harikrishna also won the match thus providing full score to the team.
In the case of women’s teams, R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukhand Tania Sachdev won their matches over their Jamaican Opposition. Vantika Agrawal’s equalizer against Raheanna Brown erased the Indian’s perfect score margin forcing them to settle for half point in victory.
Praggnanandhaa had an easier time earning the victory against his opponent Muhammad since he applied pressure on him forcing him to make errors which aided his win. Played very good chess, combining, taking an initiative in the beginning of the game and won after taking an extra piece. Erigesi had to play a higher rated player but won the game although sacrificing a piece in the process destroying his opponent’s defense and mating with the rook.
