Delhi Police seizes staggering 15 tonnes fake flavor The product was being manufactured in two factories in northeast Delhi’s Karaval Nagar area and three people, including the owners of the processing units, were arrested.
The suspects Dilip Singh (46), Sarfaraj (32) (the owner of the units) and Khurseed Malik (42) were supplying the items adulterated spices The product was sold to local markets and vendors in Delhi/National Capital Region at the same price as the original product, a senior police officer said on Sunday.
DCP (Crime Branch) Rakesh Paweriya said the items recovered included rotten leaves and rice, spoiled millet, sawdust, chilli heads, acid and oil used in manufacturing fake products.
DCP Paweriya said the police received information about the involvement of certain manufacturers and shopkeepers in northeast Delhi in manufacturing and selling various brands of adulterated spices.
“Based on this information, a team was formed and a raid was conducted on May 1. During the operation, Singh was found operating a processing unit where he was using inedible and banned substances such as spoilage of leaves, rice, millet, sawdust, chilli heads, acid and oil, the DP said.
Although Singh and Sarfaraj tried to escape, they were arrested and interrogated. The official said that Singh admitted to being the owner of the manufacturing unit while Malik admitted to supplying the adulterated spices.
Further investigation revealed another processing unit on Kalihata Road in Karaval Nagar, where Sarfaraj was found manufacturing adulterated spices, the DCP said.
DCP Paweriya added: “On being informed, the Department of Food and Safety conducted inspections and collected recovered samples of adulterated spices from both factories. Accordingly, a case was registered under relevant sections of law and all three accused were arrested.”
Police said the two unit owners were not only deceiving the public but also taking their own lives into play by producing adulterated spices.
During interrogation, it was found that Singh and Sarfaraj set up their own unit in 2021 to earn more profits by producing adulterated spices, police said, adding that Malik had been involved in the adulterated spices business before Participate in the buying and selling of clothing.
Police added that the suspect has been remanded in custody and further investigations are ongoing.
