This is Riya Mistry (9) a 4th grade student from Valsad was feeling unwell since Sept. 13 and hence was brought to the hospital, health worsened. When she reported to the hospital, she was already vomiting and on 14th September while hospitalized, she complained of severe headache. After being diagnosed with cerebral hemorrhage, she was transferred to Kiran Hospital five days later and was placed in a brain death status the following day.
Dr. Usha Meisheri, a gynecologist and Riya’s adoptive mother, persuaded Riya’s mother and father, Bobby and Trushna respectively, to agree to organ donation. In another particular incident, a 40 year old Shipul Mandaliza from Parua village in Nadia district of West Bengal and staying at Kadudara Sanchi village was intercepted while sailing from chaltan canal to Dinh. Dolly fell off its motor bike on the road and suffered bleeding inside the brain.
Removed were two of his kidneys, a liver and heart. His heart was implanted to a 57 year old man from the city and his kidneys and liver were sent to other regions in Ahmedabad.
“We had to embalm his body and send it back to West Bengal because Mandal’s family was financially very poor. His family consented to extract useful organs,” Mandwala said.”
