In the just concluded match with Ireland on Wednesday at New York’s T20 World Cup in Nassau County, Jasprit Bumrah stressed the importance of “proactivity,” saying that you cannot predict anything coming after he had made a fantastic spell on a difficult track.
Winning the toss, India chose to field and restricted Ireland to just 96 runs, with Hardik Pandya taking three wickets (3/27), while pacemen Jasprit Bumrah (2/6 in 3 overs) and Arshdeep Singh (2/35) got two apiece.
Afterwards, it was a simple chase for India as they breezed past their target with more than seven overs left. Captain Rohit Sharma contributed 52 runs before retiring hurt while Rishabh Pant remained unbeaten on 36.
The approach by Jasprit shows how responsive one should be in making decisions whilst playing since things can change so fast in this discipline field.
“I would never complain about coming here and seeing the ball swing sideways or up with some bounce or pace. You must be proactive; do not anticipate an event.”
“You understand about the type of wicket it is and then go back to what works for you. Once that seam goes down it does settle down. You have got to be ready to bowl in all conditions; very happy today,” said Jasprit Bumrah who claimed the Player of the Match award at the post-match ceremony.
Next up for India is Sunday’s encounter against Pakistan – their arch-rivals.
