India’s standout batsman, Virat Kohli, met former West Indies speedster Wesley Hall during a net session ahead of India’s Super 8 clash against Afghanistan.
The spinner presented ‘Answering to the Call,’ his book, as a gift to Kohli with whom he had an interesting conversation. In the conversation, Hall spoke highly of Kohli and wished him well in his continued success with team India.
“I just want to tell you I have seen many great players and you are one of them; I am telling you this because it is true. God bless you and I hope you still play for India,” said Hall in appreciation of Kohli’s contribution to cricket.
Kohli accepted the book from Hall humbly and posed for photographs along with him. The book was published in November 2022 and highlights Hall’s cricketing career as well as how he got into prominence among the best cricketers ever played.
The meeting between Kohli and Halls showed mutual respect. In regards to Kohli taking time off his busy schedule to come see him, Hall said “Thank you for coming because you come to practise and there you have to go and see the old man.”
“You are welcome” replied Kohli demonstrating his gratitude towards that moment.
Apart from Kohli, copies of Halls’ book were also received by Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid. Released this year is ‘Answering To The Call (Part Two)’ which reveals more about his life as a politician
“Today, I gave out three books. I gave one book each to captain (Rohit Sharma), Coach (Rahul Dravid) ,and Virat Kholi. All these three are great players. It’s good when people get rewarded. Sometimes, you are just a good player… and then you never make it. I think they have done very well for India”, Hall said.
Hall’s words and actions illustrated how much he appreciated the influence of Kholi, Dravid and Sharma in Indian cricket. The discussion between the former and current cricket legends represented the great heritage and timeless relevance of this game.
