The most important thing is that Virat Kohli has already prepared to meet the difficulties that will accompany him towards the T20 World Cup in 2024. In a recent talk about his path up to the forthcoming tournament, Kohli contemplated on his feelings before making his World Cup debut versus Bangladesh in 2011.
Kohli’s first match was really spectacular. He combined with Virender Sehwag and they made an imposing partnership of 203 runs. Consequently, he became the very first and solitary Indian player who scored a century in their World Cup opening game. His unbeaten ton off 83 balls lasted for Team India to total of 370 runs and finally resulted into an impressive win by 87 runs.
“My first game was against Bangladesh, Dhaka and I was nervous definitely, yes I won’t lie. But you can feel there is something different when you walk into a world cup, there is something different around and you could obviously sense it. I remember that day so clearly because it was a big stage for me as I debuted at such a big competition like Cricket World Cup. To be honest, I would say that all those greats whom I played along with were fantastic examples of how cricket should be play.”
“It was more like a little bit desperately going into the match; like even night before also just being nervous but again it’s good sign because your body is preparing yourself to get into situations where you are alert; not taking anything for granted, and hence amassing tension in my muscles getting ready for this kind of situation. Probably this nervousness got me on guard, conscious, and absolutely spot-on while executing everything according to my plans,” noted Kohli on Star Sports.
The one-time Indian captain has been one of the best batsmen across all formats but he has done better than anyone else at T20 World Cups. In fact he stands as highest run scorer in this tournament’s history having scored 1141 runs out of the 25 innings that he played his average becoming an unbelievable 81. 50.
India will prepare by playing a warm-up game against Bangladesh on June 1 ahead of the T20 World Cup to be held in the USA and West Indies.
