India’s No.10 and No.11 batsmen, Venkatapathy Raju and Javagal Srinath respectively, also managed an all-run five thirty-two years back in a game against Australia at Adelaide Oval, which is now being talked about again.
Sunday witnessed a rare, extraordinary occurrence during the fourth day of the one-off Test match between Ireland and Zimbabwe at Belfast’s Civil Service Cricket Club. Ireland batsmen Lorcan Tucker and Andy McBrine produced an all-run five in their second innings that caused quite a buzz on social media.
This strange event reminded cricket lovers of something similar when it happened in 1992.
In their recent game versus Zimbabwe, Ireland had to chase down 158 and they were languishing in trouble at 21/5 after six overs. Tucker (56) and McBrine (55*) helped Ireland win the game.
The Irishman powerfully drove through cover point off left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava to collect five runs that involved him running four times along fielders’ parallaxes till Tendai Chatara covered the ground just inside the rope.
However, great attempts by Tucker alongside McBrine forced them to run five times between wickets. This remarkable action played an important role in Ireland’s recovery leading them into a four-wicket victory with McBrine not out on 55.
The viral video showing this incident brought back memories of what happened at Adelaide Oval during India’s match against Australia way back in 1992.
On another hand during India’s first innings McDermott pitched up outside off stump and was drive away through extra cover by Srinath towards boundary while Allan Border gave chase from mid-off. Border just saved the boundary as he pushed the ball back into play but tailenders Raju and Srinath got around for five completions making such a notable achievement in cricket history.
Social media platforms have gone ablaze with these videos, as fans and pundits alike reflect on these remarkable moments. These are events that are worth remembering even years later since they define the game’s soul and what makes it a global darling.
